Indigenous people are experiencing a business renaissance; from purchases of tank farms, offers to buy pipelines, and an amazing purchase of Atlantic fishing licenses, Indigenous communities are grabbing more of the economic pie. Indigenous entrepreneurs are emerging across Canada and thriving.
As we enter the second Spring of the pandemic, I feel a sense of optimism regarding this movement. Indigenous communities are securing contracts on major projects, and new organizations are forming to bring capacity to those projects. Indigenous people are gaining training and employment in trades, operations, design, and project management. Bosgoed Projects is bringing WorkFirst to over $1.7B in capital projects. Each application is different, but the common thread is a willingness on the part of governments, resource companies, consultants and contractors to change their approach to projects.
Let’s all keep in mind that the goal is for all parties to benefit; the communities, project proponents and contractors. Indigenous communities are growing and have many needs. Indigenous communities also have a wealth of human resources to bring to any endeavour. They want to work, to own, and to prosper.
Being raised on a farm in Saskatchewan, I always feel that anything is possible in the Spring. Now that all the players in projects are collaborating like never before, we can all share in the bountiful harvest. Please do your part. Let us know if we can help you.
Stay safe, everyone, and see you next week!
